For several years the Theresa Academy of Performing Arts has provided Saturday Respite experiences for the Long Beach and local community.  Each Saturday morning, teachers, aides, volunteers, and students gather at The Theresa Building in Lido to start the weekend off right!

Fine art, dance, yoga, and music classes are offered each week as mini-classes during the Saturday program.  Students love the variety of classes and having the opportunity to socialize with friends.  Every student is partnered with a buddy that assists in transitions, planning, and personal goals.  Typically developing students are also welcome to join us as volunteers, buddies, and students!  We have students from ages 5 – 20 that attend the program each week and we love to have new faces.

It’s a great opportunity for parents and caregivers to have a few hours to themselves after a week of working.  Most families say they use the time to run errands, catch up on work, go to the gym, or just relax.  As Susan Russo always says, “A well-rested parent is a more effective parent”, and we hope that our families continue to use respite during the year.

Spaces are limited and pre-registration is required each week.  For more information about enrollment, cost, and scholarship, please call (516) 432-0200 for more information.
